Now Possible to Delete Threads Account Independently of Instagram: Check the Details
Several months ago, Instagram introduced a new social media app called Threads, positioning itself as a competitor to the now-rebranded Twitter, X. The application, offering functionalities akin to X, experienced rapid success with over 100 million downloads within its first five days, making it the fastest-growing app at the time. However, this initial triumph was short-lived, as users began to abandon the app after the initial hype.
One significant drawback users encountered was the inability to delete their Threads account without also deleting their Instagram account. Recognizing the need for a solution, the Instagram team has now addressed this issue, responding to one of the most commonly requested changes from users.
Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri recently shared a post announcing the long-awaited modification. Users can now delete their Threads account independently of their Instagram account, a change that aligns with what many felt should have been the case from the beginning.
How to deactivate or delete your Threads account?
- Open the Threads application on your device and ensure you are signed in with the account you wish to delete.
- Go to Settings within the app.
- Select Deactivation or Delete option.
- You may select deactivate profile or Delete profile.
Importantly, neither of these options will impact your Instagram account. Deactivating your Threads account merely renders it invisible to others until you choose to reactivate it by logging back in. On the other hand, deleting your profile permanently erases all Threads account data, including your profile, posts, followers, and likes. This data will remain hidden for 30 days until it is permanently deleted.
Mosseri also unveiled another significant change aimed at enhancing user privacy. Threads had been displaying user posts on Facebook and Instagram to promote the platform, a move that raised privacy concerns among users. To address this, the app now features a new setting that allows users to opt out of being featured outside the Threads platform. Users can enable this option by navigating to Settings > Privacy on Threads.
Both of these welcomed changes are currently being rolled out and should soon be available to all users. It is recommended to ensure you are using the latest version of the Threads application to access these new features.
