Shah Rukh Khan’s latest action movie Jawan continues its impressive box office run in its sixth week in theaters. This brings the cumulative domestic collection for Jawan to Rs 633.78 crore so far. The film got a boost from the National Cinema Day promotion last week, which offered reduced Rs 99 ticket prices and helped drive audiences to theaters.
Overall, Jawan has grossed Rs 1,132.13 crore globally as reported by production company Red Chillies Entertainment, backed by stars Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan. Even in its sixth week, Jawan maintained a decent 13.88 percent Hindi occupancy on Saturday showing its ability to continue drawing moviegoers.
With strong holding power and continued positive audience response, Jawan is sustaining its box office performance in a long and profitable theatrical run. The action thriller is proving to have legs well beyond the typical window for Hindi films, emerging as one of the biggest hits of Shah Rukh Khan’s career.
Despite facing competition from several new film releases, Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan has held its ground at the box office in its sixth week. Other movies like Mission Raniganj, The Vaccine War, Fukrey 3, and Thank You For Coming hit theaters on Saturday, but Jawan still managed to earn an impressive Rs 1.75 crore for the day according to Sacnilk.
Of the new releases, Mission Raniganj brought in around Rs 2 crore on Saturday. This takes its total domestic collection so far to Rs 25.05 crore. Another sequel, Fukrey 3 raked in Rs 1.90 crore, pushing its overall India gross to Rs 87.79 crore.
So while Jawan saw four fresh titles enter the fray, the action thriller was still able to keep performing despite this influx of competition. The ability to sustain solid box office earnings even against new films highlights Jawan’s continued success in week six, thanks to strong word of mouth and audience demand.
At a celebratory event for the box office smash hit Jawan, lead actor Shah Rukh Khan revealed that the highly-anticipated action thriller took four years to fully complete due to delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Addressing the successful six week box office run of Jawan, Shah Rukh Khan praised the incredible dedication and effort of the film’s production team. He highlighted the many personal and professional sacrifices made by the cast and crew in order to keep the ambitious project moving forward through unprecedented challenges like pandemic lockdowns and restrictions.
Despite the many setbacks faced during the extended four year production, Shah Rukh Khan commended the tireless work ethic of the Jawan team that made sure filming could resume once safe conditions allowed. He credited this commitment to quality and perseverance for the movie’s ability to connect with audiences and become a box office hit even after such a long and interrupted road to completion.
The journey to finish and release Jawan was impacted greatly by the global health crisis, but Shah Rukh Khan described how the unwavering vision of the team is what ultimately brought this action spectacle to life and made the long wait worthwhile for moviegoers.
Shah Rukh Khan said, “Very seldom do we get this opportunity to live so many years with a film. Jawan has been in the making for four years, of course, because of Covid and time constraints. There were so many people involved in this film, especially people from the South, who came and shifted to Mumbai and have been living in Mumbai for the last four years, working day and night for this film. They have worked the hardest. Many people didn’t go home, they were here to make the film. Some people even had babies here, like my director Atlee.”
On the heels of the monumental box office performance of Jawan, Shah Rukh Khan’s legions of fans are now eagerly looking ahead to the superstar’s next major project – the Rajkumar Hirani-directed Dunki, set to release this December.
Given Shah Rukh Khan’s return to top form with the action thriller Jawan emerging as a blockbuster hit, expectations are sky-high for Dunki to continue his comeback success. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani, who has delivered some of Bollywood’s most popular comedies and dramas, Dunki teams the director up with Shah Rukh for the first time.
With only months to go before Dunki hits theaters in December, the collaboration between two of Indian cinema’s biggest names in Shah Rukh Khan and Rajkumar Hirani has fans tremendously excited. The response to Jawan has proven that moviegoers are more than ready for Shah Rukh to reclaim his position at the peak of Bollywood, and Dunki looks primed to fulfill those expectations when it arrives this holiday season.
The runaway triumph of Jawan has shown that Shah Rukh Khan still reigns supreme in the hearts of fans. Now all eyes are focused on the megastar’s next act with Dunki, and whether it can replicate the same magic and success of his latest blockbuster.
